Drought of the Cherokee Nation

Printed on Heavy-Stock Parchment Paper, Size: 11" x 17".
This map deplicts the great Cherokee Country drought on the West Side of the Twenty-Four Mountains commonly called "Over The Hills" now located in Southeastern Tennessee (primarily Loudon County). The map was drawn by Henry Timberland in March of 1762. Also includes the names the "Principal" or "Headmen" of each town and what number of fighting men they sent to war.

This map shows the gradual shrinking of Indian land in Southwestern Tennessee and Northwestern Georgia based on treaties signed October 25, 1805, July 8, 1817, February 27, 1819, and December 29, 1835. A sad commentary on White Man's thirst for land.

This map depicts Cherokee territory in Northeastern Oklahoma in 1873. Included are the exact locations of the Battle of Honey Springs in 1863, Battle of Caving Springs in 1861, and the Battle of Cabin Creek. Sidebar: In 1873, the Cherokee orphanage was known as the Salina Cherokee Orphan Asylum. Includes many interesting sites.

The area of Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Kentucky once the home to the Cherokee is recreated here from maps by Stuart, Hunter, & Royce in 1937. J. P. Brown used their drawings to create his maps. This was revised in color by W. F. Martin in 1999. Full color on water color paper.
