At the time of the removal of the Cherokee to the west, the government sent in teams of appraisers to evaluate the properties of the Cherokee that were going west. There are five small books of these evaluations by five different teams. We have transcribed each of the five volumes from across north Georgia, eastern Alabama and southeastern Tennessee. Some of the Cherokee are listed as living in North Carolina, but their property there is not in this collection.

In each of the valuations, the buildings are valued, as well as the land with the crops associated with the various fields. One interesting point of note is that almost to the individual Cherokee they owned Peach Trees. Not just one or two but in some cases hundreds of Peach Trees with even a nursery to raise more. Each building is described by size, type of construction and special features as hall ways, piazza or shed, probably a porch. In many cases, family connections are given such as “wife of” or “son”. In most all cases, where the Cherokee was living is given down to the creek, river in said county near a neighbor. It is a rich book of information.

A PDF file of each of the five volumes is included on the CD.
