This 8.5"x11" oversized publication contains a wealth of information for the historian or researcher of McKenzie's 5th Tennessee Regiment. Concentrating primarily on Tennessee troop movements, each wonderful 'tidbit' is a personal recollection, packed with names and data. Most of the articles appearing in this volume were originally published in the Dayton Herald.
Partial Excerpt January, 1864. Our Brigade was at Camp Wharton at Cave Springs, Georgia, recruiting our horses. A heavy snow fell, Colonel Montgomery secured a boarding place for me here.
Our brigade was organized as follows: First Tennessee, Colonel Joseph T. Wheeler; Second Tennessee, Colonel H.M. Ashby; Fifth Tennessee, Colonel G.W. McKenzie; Fourth Tennessee, Colonel Baxter Smith.
Lieutenant Colonel Paul Anderson commanded these four regiments, made Colonel Asby Brigade Colonel. Terries Brigade was the 8th Texas. Colonel Raser commanded the 11th Texas; Colonel Terry 3rd Arkansas, Colonel Hobson the 9th Tennessee Battalion; Colonel Lewis commanded by Major Aiken. *( Continues with military action )*
