In 1794, Campbell county was created out of Mason, Scott, and Harrison. Due to the size of the original county, Pendleton, Boone, Kenton and Grant were created out of the territory. The county was named in honor of Col. John Campbell. This collection of materials was taken from two sources, first History of Kentucky by Lewis Colllins in 1882 and secondly KENTUCKY: A History of the State by W. H. Perin, J. H. Battle and G. C. Kniffin written in 1885. Most of the biographical material was submitted by the original families, and therefore, is probably more accurate.

J. N. STEWART, county superintendent of schools of Campbell County, is a native of Harrison County, KY, and is the second in a family of four children born to W. H. and E. A. (Webb) Stewart. W. H. Stewart was born in Indiana, and Mrs. Stewart, a native of Harrison County, KY, was a daughter of Rev. Charles and Elizabeth (Davis) Webb, etc...
