Breckinridge County was created from a part of Hardin in 1799 and was the 39th county elected in Kentucky. This volume of the history and biographical sketches of the county are taken from two sources, History of Kentucky by Lewis Collins in 1882 and KENTUCKY: A History of the State by W. H. Perin, J. H. Battle and G. C. Kniffin in 1885.

The materials for these biographical sketches were submitted by the various family members, and therefore, are probably more accurate than other sources. Those doing research in this area of Kentucky will find this a valuable book to have in their library.

Example of one sketch:
HIRAM H. McCOY is a native of Breckinridge County, and the eighth in a family of ten children born to Thomas and dorcas (Hadley) McCoy, of Virginia and New York respectively. Thomas McCoy was born Bedford County, VA, and came to Kentucky in his early manhood, settling in Breckinridge County, where his son now lives. Etc...
